Primary and secondary school pupils in Beijing are being asked to behave in a civilised manner when they watch sports matches.
The latest version of the code of conduct governing the capital's schoolchildren states that pupils cannot boo or verbally attack players, coaches and referees, or throw objects onto sports grounds.
Xinhua earlier also reported that pupils in Beijing would be taught etiquette and manners related to the Olympic Games.
A book entitled Student Etiquette was introduced into the curriculum this academic year. It is aimed at teaching children how to behave at home, school and in social situations with foreign visitors to the Games.
Scuffles broke out last year after the national soccer team lost 1-3 to Japan in the Asian Cup final.
It was the first time in two decades a Chinese football team had made the final and fans reacted to the loss by throwing bottles, shouting obscenities, burning Japanese flags and attacking a Japanese embassy car.
