Updated at 7.21pm: Police officers on Friday continued searching the Sai Kung Country Park area ? anxious to find an off-duty officer who went missing on Sunday after going hiking.

Concerns are growing for the safety of 45-year-old Constable Ting Li-wah following five days of intensive searching involving 100 officers and volunteers.

The man?s family have also joined police, along with rescuers from the Fire Services and Civil Aid Service. Some were equipped with maps and wore hats to protect themselves during September?s hot, humid weather.

Police have scoured key spots in the country park which are traditionally popular with hikers and joggers in Hong Kong.

A grocer in Sai Kung said Constable Ting was last seen making a call in his grocery store at Tai Long Sai Wan on Sunday. The grocer said Constable Ting entered his shop at about noon that day and asked whether he could use a phone there.

An hour and a half later, he rang a 999 hotline, telling them he had lost his way in Pak Tam Chung.

Police believed that Constable Ting made the emergency call at Tai Tan ? a place about 5 kilometres from Tai Long Sai Wan.
