An experienced IT professional is required by the Chinese University of Hong Kong to oversee the operation and expansion of its Information Technology Services Centre (ITSC). The ITSC provides a comprehensive range of quality information technology services and technologies in support of the university's development. 'The ITSC director will play a leading role in the centre's day-to-day operations and growth, including strategic planning and policy-making for IT facilities or services at the university,' said a spokesman. The role includes the implementation of large-scale IT initiatives and solutions. The director will also be responsible for institution-wide data management and access systems. Good interpersonal skills are a prerequisite as the new director will be responsible for staff and project supervision. The chosen candidate will also be required to offer professional advice in other aspects of university management, as appropriate, including serving on relevant advisory committees. The role requires a professional who can effectively multitask and motivate the centre's team. Budget planning and monitoring, as well as systematic equipment and software procurement experience, is necessary. Applicants should have a bachelor's degree (preferably a higher degree) in computing studies, IT management or related areas and a broad and solid knowledge of IT advancements, protocols and standards. Candidates should also have extensive experience in managing IT units for serving a large community of academic and administrative users in support of teaching, research and learning, preferably in a tertiary education setting. Strong leadership and proven skills in supervisory management, project implementation and problem-solving are needed. 'They will also need good communication and organisational acumen in liaising and collaborating with stakeholders of technical and non-technical backgrounds,' the spokesman said. The appointment will initially be a fixed-term contract for up to three years, and is renewable subject to mutual agreement. 'The ITSC director will receive a highly competitive salary commensurate with qualifications and experience,' the spokesman said. The monthly salary ranges from $76,170 to $90,060. Candidates with outstanding qualifications and experience will be considered for appointment at a higher monthly salary level. The comprehensive fringe benefit package includes medical, a contract-end gratuity for an appointment of two years or longer, plus housing benefits.
