Police chief says regional co-operation helping to combat crime
Updated at 7.06pm: Co-operation among law enforcement agencies of Hong Kong, Guangdong and Macau had achieved fruitful results over the past five years, Police Director of Crime and Security Tang Hau-sing said.
Heads of crime investigation units from the three territories on Thursday held the 11th tripartite meeting at Police Headquarters in Wan Chai.
Speaking after the meeting, Mr Tang said: 'The law enforcers of the three places discussed various topics on cross-boundary crimes including internet crimes, illegal gambling, cross-boundary vice activities, drug offences, economic and commercial crimes, anti-triad and other joint operations.'
He said the three parties had established close co-operation in the exchange of information and launched joint operations following 10 such meetings held in the past five years.
In early September, for example, two suspects in connection with the chopping attack on a seven-year-old boy, Shum Ho Yin, were arrested in Shenzhen.
The two suspects had fled to Shenzhen following the alleged assault, but were arrested and then returned to Hong Kong by the mainland Public Security Bureau.
