Mother arrested over slashing of son's wrists

A woman was arrested for allegedly cutting her nine-year-old son with a knife in Tsing Yi. A passer-by called 999 when the boy shouted for help at a roundabout outside Greenfield Garden in Fung Shue Wo Road just before 12.30pm. The mother allegedly slashed her wrist before injuring her son's, police said. A bloodstained fruit knife was found at the scene. The woman and her son were taken to Princess Margaret Hospital. The incident took place after the woman's husband told her he wanted to end their marriage, police said.

Woman contracts cholera on visit to Guangzhou

A 75-year-old woman contracted cholera while travelling to Guangzhou, disease experts said. The woman, the fifth case this year, was in a stable condition in Queen Mary Hospital. She went to Guangzhou on September 7 and returned on September 11. She began experiencing diarrhoea, nausea and vomiting on September 12. The Centre for Health Protection said mainland authorities had detected more cholera cases this year than last year.

Seven to appear in court on murder charge

Seven males, aged between 14 and 19, will appear in Eastern Court today jointly charged with one count of murder relating to the death of a 22-year-old man whose body was found on grassland on Chai Wan North Service Reservoir on Monday. Police also arrested two more men, aged 15 and 22, in Chai Wan last night in connection with the case.
