Covering a wide variety of all-time classics, Clemetine's Avec is mainstream jazz at its best: melodic, easy-listening tracks with infectious rhythms. Clementine's vocals are sweet, gentle and sexy. Her French background lends her flawless bossa nova sound a romantic flavour that is refreshing. The album opener is a French version of Chuck E's In Love. Her breezy and smooth voice sets a chirpy mood for the rest of the album. Clementine gives Que Sera Sera a jazzy touch, but without losing any of its original melancholic flavour. There are also standard Latin numbers such as Garota De Ipanema and Caminhos Cruzados. Lady Wants To Know is a refreshingly tender version of Michael Franks' classic, while Clementine's jazzy rendition of Djavan's Sina is an album highlight. Avec is not an inventive album, but its songs are better than most sugar-coated jazz releases and serves as a nice introduction to bossa nova.
