Nelson Mandela. He dedicated himself to fighting apartheid and white domination in South Africa, and his ideal for democracy inspired millions all over the world. Imprisoned for 27 years for his protests, he was a martyr for democracy. And at last he won.

Ottilie Yuen Sze-wai, 16

St Paul's Convent School George Washington is the greatest political hero. Under his leadership, America won the War of Independence. But what I admire most about him is his willingness to step down. He retired after his second presidency when he could have easily turned America into his own empire.
