Police believe the 19-year-old fell into a stream as she took a short cut
A 19-year-old student whose body was found floating off Tai Po on Monday is thought to have been washed down a 3km underground channel to the sea after falling into a stream as she took a short cut to a bus stop.
The theory emerged yesterday as police ruled out foul play in the death of Cheung So-ngo.
Earlier, there had been speculation that Cheung, who had multiple cuts and bruises, was attacked by criminals before being dumped in the harbour.
But a postmortem examination found she died from drowning and none of the wounds seemed to have been inflicted by sharp objects, such as knives.
Police now believe she fell into a flooded stream that crosses the path she often used as a short cut from her home in Kam Ying Court, Ma On Shan, to a bus stop below, and was swept into the underground channel.
