Nicholas Maclean, Christie's international director for impressionist and modern art, shows Les Marguerites by Henri Matisse, one of 16 impressionist and modern masterpieces on view at the Ritz-Carlton Hotel in Central today and tomorrow. The paintings will later go under the hammer at Christie's auctions in New York and London. Matisse's work and fellow French impressionist Claude Monet's Nympheas are each expected to fetch $117 million. Other works are by Pablo Picasso, Lucian Freud, and more. Twelve of the paintings exhibited in Hong Kong will be sold in New York on November 1 and the remaining four will be sold in London next year.
