Auction house Sotheby's is placing 200 fine Chinese paintings under the hammer this month.

The paintings from scores of China's top artists are expected to fetch up to $85 million when they go on sale at the Island Shangri-La hotel on October 24. The public will have an opportunity to view the artwork at Sotheby's offices at One Pacific Place in Admiralty from October 21-23.

Paintings include famed artist Zhang Daqian's Snowcapped Mountains in Switzerland, painted in 1967, which is expected to sell for between $4 million to $6 million. Another piece from Zhang's famous snowy mountain series, Summer Mountain in Switzerland, attracted the second-highest price in Sotheby's Hong Kong's Chinese Painting Spring Sale earlier this year of more than $7 million.

Several other paintings by Zhang will also be up for auction.

Another notable lot on offer is a set of four hanging scrolls entitled Blossoming by 19th-century artist Zhao Zhiqian, who specialised in painting flowers, fruit and vegetables. It is expected to sell for between $5 million to $7 million.
