Lifestyle International Holdings has plans for a second Sogo department store in Tsim Sha Tsui, to take advantage of the expected influx of tourists visiting Hong Kong. Managing director Thomas Lau Luen-hung expects the $100 million store to return a profit in its first year of operation.

He said Sogo was a favourite shopping draw among mainland tourists, who accounted for 25 per cent of Sogo's customer base.

In February, Lifestyle leased 115,000 square feet of retail space in the Amazon underground shopping centre on Salisbury Road for the new Sogo, for a letting period of 15 years. The space was previously home to Teddy Bear Kingdom.

Lifestyle International's interim net profit jumped 26.7 per cent to $234.3 million on turnover that rose 30.4 per cent to $967.87 million.
