A former Chinese University medical professor was reprimanded by the Medical Council yesterday after being convicted last year of cheating the university out of more than $860,000 in rental subsidies. The council hearing chaired by Felice Lieh Mak will gazette its decision on Edith Lau Ming-chu, a former senior lecturer at the community and family medicine department and a long-time researcher in osteoporosis who resigned from the university last year. Dr Lau was found to have twice misled the university by claiming in her rent allowance applications that neither she nor any family members owned the property in question. She received a suspended sentence in the District Court.
