The car accessories shops in Hak Po Street, Mongkok, are well worth a visit - particularly if your partner's shopping at the markets on nearby Sai Yeung Choi Street. Armor All Wax-It-Dry Gel $50 for 591ml OK, this is something really new. You apply the gel to the car while it's still wet after a wash. Wipe the car dry as you normally do - and the result, we're promised, is as if you've given it a wax job. The promise sounds great. We all know waxing is a back-breaking ritual, so to be able to wax while you're wiping dry sounds awesome. Wax-It-Dry Gel contains carnauba, the premium ingredient in most top-grade waxes. It can be applied directly to the car's body, or squeezed onto a towel and applied. I found the latter method spread the stuff more evenly. And true to its claim, the treated body panels are noticeably smoother than non-treated ones. But Wax-It-Dry Gel doesn't have much smell - so there's none of that lovely waxing odour. Mothers Leather Conditioner $59 for 355ml Leather seats are cool, as long as the leather is smooth and supple. Leather that isn't cared for will not only lose its lustre, but also crack. Mothers Leather Conditioner contains lanolin and other nice stuff to replenish the natural oils in leather that are lost due to heat, sunlight and general wear. So your leather seats will get moisturised and beautified. I enjoy using this product because it doesn't smell of chemicals as others do. Also, it brings leather back to a natural shine without being excessive. And it doesn't make your seats too oily. Meguiar's NXT Spray Wax $76 for 710ml The NXT Spray Wax is an extension to Meguiar's NXT series, whose original car wax is made of synthetic polymers. It's supposed to do a better job than traditional polymers by giving cars a better shine. The NXT Spray Wax comes in a hi-tech-looking bottle of green and blue. It's marketed as a supplement to an already waxed car body to give a deeper, longer lasting shine. Spray it on, give it a light buff and you'll feel good knowing your car has an additional layer of protection. It smells good, too. Meguiar's NXT Glass Cleaner $58 for 710ml Another NXT product from Meguiar's is this glass cleaner that's specially formulated to remove the smoke film, bugs, tree sap and road dirt that collect on your windshield. The manufacturer makes no claim about synthetic substances, but the product provides a 'streak-free clarity, anti-hazing property' and will 'ensure glass stays clearer longer'. Just spray it on, wipe off and you're done. I reckon all glass cleaners do pretty much the same thing and have the same result. I think even a wet towel would do. But like the NXY Spray Wax, this NXT Glass Cleaner looks cool. It even has a rubber strip on the finger squeeze to prevent slipping. Gigas G'zox Multi Power fuel tablets; $58 for six tablets Fuel additives usually come in liquid form, a bottle of which is said to clean the fuel system, dissolve grime that sits inside the engine and improve fuel economy. This Gigas G'zox fuel additive comes in tablet form, which is why it's also known as 'Viagra for cars' in Mongkok. Just pop one of the yellow pills into a tankful of gas and it does much the same as its liquid counterparts. A graph on the package suggests it can increase fuel economy by as much as 10.3 per cent, promote complete ignition and reduce friction in the pistons. I couldn't feel much difference after using it though - or maybe my car is just difficult to improve. Austo Multi-Functional Coat-Care Cleaning Towel, $40 As its name suggests, this two-sided cleaning towel has many applications. Its woollen velour side can be used to wipe off dust from the car body and the interior. The finer silk velour side can be used to buff off wax. The Canadian manufacturer says the towel is so fine that it won't scratch the clear coat of the car's body, won't leave any swirl marks and offers better protection than cotton towels. It's also thick enough to allow you a good grip when polishing.
