Singapore's top information technology and communications engineering services firm NCS is cranking up its regional expansion plans with a sharpened focus on key e-government projects in Hong Kong and on the mainland.
'The value proposition we offer is our long experience as the principal IT solutions provider to the Singapore government,' said NCS chief executive Chong Yoke Sin.
Its strategy has already helped land a lucrative outsourcing contract, worth more than $300 million, from the Hong Kong government's Logistics Department for a project under the Immigration Department.
The contract, announced last Tuesday, is to develop a secure, one-stop infrastructure for the new Application and Investigation Easy System and the Electronic Records and Document Management System. Both projects are part of the Immigration Department's updated Information Systems Strategy (ISS-2).
The NCS infrastructure is scheduled to be completed in 2007, enabling the department to cope with a steady growth in workload and move to a more efficient workflow-based, paperless operating environment. The contract includes a 10-year maintenance and support arrangement.
With the NCS-built system, the department would provide most of its operations - including the filing of applications, booking of appointments and payment of fees - online to the public.
The department's ISS-2, which comprises 30 multimillion-US$ projects, is also slated for completion in 2007.
