An outspoken son of Eric Hotung would soldier on in his lone battle against his billionaire father, he said yesterday.

Sean Hotung, 40, will this week meet lawyers of Hillhead Limited - one of the two trustees appointed by Eric Hotung in 1976 to look after two trusts he set up for his children - to find out what happened to the $100 million his father said earlier had been put under the trusts.

He was considering legal action against the other trustee, Winnie Ho Yuen-ki, a sister of casino tycoon Stanley Ho Hung-sun, who still refused to speak to him.

Last week Sean Hotung said the audit reports dated 2003 showed the two companies of which he and his siblings were entitled to hold shares were in the red.

'I've actually learned quite a bit about myself and my family - who are the strong ones, who are the weak ones, who can handle the strain, who will break, how far a person can go,' he said.

He had spent a lot of money and sacrificed his family life and business to focus on the court cases. 'There's a satisfaction of not being broken. There's a satisfaction of making it to the end of the race, because not everyone made it. Some people are too scared of even getting in the race, some switch side, some fall out,' he said.
