Updated at 4.45pm: Chief Executive Donald Tsang Yam-kuen on Friday appointed eight new members to his top policy-making body as part of his strategy to build a strong executive-led administration.
The new members of Executive Council include stock market executives, company chiefs, a heath expert and a moderate democrat. The eight new faces are:
- Edward Leong Che-hung, former Hospital Authority chairman;
- David Li Kwok-po, legislator representing the banking sector, who was also the campaign manager for Mr Tsang?s election as chief executive;
- Anthony Cheung Bing-leung, former Democratic Party vice-chairman, who now heads the pro-democracy think-tank SynergyNet and is a professor of public and social administration at City University;
- Charles Lee Yeh-kwong, Hong Kong Exchanges and Clearing (HKEx) chairman;
- Marvin Cheung Kin-tung, HKEx director;
- Ronald Arculli, Jockey Club chairman;
- Henry Fan Hung-ling, Citic Pacific executive director; and
- Victor Lo Chung-wing, Chairman of the Hong Kong Science and Technology Parks.
They will serve until June 2007 when Mr Tsang?s term of office expires.
Present Exco member Leung Chun-ying will resume his seat as Exco convenor.
Commenting on the appointment, Mr Tsang said an expanded Exco would take its membership from a wider spectrum of the community.
'It includes representatives from labour and social services, and also representatives from financial services, business, professional services and academia. A broader range of views can help me consider issues from a wider perspective when formulating policies and can help improve our governance,? Mr Tsang said.
