Zahra 409A Jaffe Road, Wan Chai 2838 4597 The fare Lebanese and Middle Eastern fare at its best. The ambience The dimmed lighting makes for a relaxing atmosphere. The carved brass lamp, dumbek (drums) and rebab (stringed instrument) are nice touches. The cost About $350 a person with some drinks. Who to bring Your partner, who will be impressed by your refined tastes and cultural savvy. Turn-ons The prawn sidon; the spicy tomato sauce did not overpower the flavour of the crustacean. Of the desserts, the baklava had just the right sweetness, the pastry was of the fluffiest, and the honeyed pistachio filling was nice and soft. The maamoul (semolina cookie filled with dates and pistachio) was equally well textured. Turn-offs The repetitive music might get a bit intrusive at times and spoil the ambience. The extras We were told all the dishes are freshly made by the husband-and-wife team who own the restaurant. The waitresses are very patient and happy to answer queries about the menu.
