Goccia Ristorante e Bar 71 Wyndham Street, Central 2167 8181 The fare Southern Italian dishes at their most authentic. The ambience The interior design is supposed to be about contrasting textures - raked stucco walls and smooth orange leather, concrete plinths and merbau timber, bamboo ceilings and white plaster - but the result feels too much like a designer's showroom. We recommend booking a table on the terrace. The cost About $400 per person without wine. Who to bring Socialite friends (the venue is in the vicinity of all the socialite hangouts). Turn-ons The Portobello mushroom with prezzemolata on parmesan fondue smelled heavenly and tasted just as good, and the layer of radicchio gave it a pleasant astringency. The square spaghetti with Boston lobster and broad beans was fresh and satisfying, though a tad salty. Many of the dishes on the seafood-heavy menu sounded deeply tempting. Carnivores should have a good time too, with meat options such as roast saddle of lamb flavoured with thyme, taboulet and eggplant 'parmigiana' timbale. Turn-offs The tapas are rather expensive at $40 to $58 a pop, especially when the whole point of tapas is that it?s supposed to be economical. The prosecco on draught, $65 a glass, is a good idea if you can afford it. The extras Desserts are big here, and the names are mouth-watering. Try caramelised layers of puff pastry with vanilla cream and strawberry compote and spiced soft dark chocolate biscuit with banana flambe.
