Mark Webber has always had faith in his own abilities. So it's no surprise that the Australian believes he will one day ascend to the highest level and become world champion.
Lofty ambitions they may be considering he has yet to win his first grand prix, but everything seems to be falling into place for the 29-year-old Williams-BMW driver.
Maybe it isn't so far fetched that Webber could one day become the first Australian to win the F1 crown since Alan Jones in 1980.
'I want to do well. I am a competitive person and I love competing,' Webber said during a stopover in Hong Kong this week. 'That's what gets me out of bed every morning; to compete against those guys and really test myself. If you don't want to be tested or challenged in Formula One, then it's not the right game for you.'
Webber knows it's just a matter of time before he makes his mark. Since joining Williams this year, his fortunes have improved. He gained his first podium finish at Monaco in June and was fourth last weekend at Suzuka after racing in third position for most of the race.
He has the hunger, skill and determination to succeed, though he clearly understands the severity of the task ahead - especially after a season dominated by Renault's Fernando Alonso and McLaren's Kimi Raikkonen.
