It can be hard to find an internship that is truly satisfying in learning and career experience. A lot of interns either end up sitting around or performing boring office work instead of learning the skills they desire. It is tough to get out there and grab that field experience you have been salivating about when you have only been sent to the mailroom, so here are some pointers on how to gain the most of an internship.

Become an expert at what you have been assigned. To move to the next level, you have to become proficient at what you are doing.

Complete each task diligently; let your employer see you are capable of going beyond the filing, faxing and shoe-shining duties.

Make connections. It is hard not to be shy in an unfamiliar environment, but assertiveness can determine the extent of the knowledge you gain.

Network around the office so you can meet more people and ask them to teach you the things you want to learn.

Write down the things you want to take on, stressing the experience you have gained in your short time with the firm. Present it to your supervisor.
