Current drive, and why I bought it Cayenne S. This is simply the optimal family car, which I'd trade in for no other. At today's Porsche parade (see Foot Down), I'll drive my favourite vintage Porsche, a 356 Cabriolet, which is treated like the apple of my eye.

My career in cars It started at the age of 19 with a second-hand Volkswagen Beetle, which took half of my salary in repairs. As a student, I had a BMW 2002 which had three previous owners. Living in London, I became a car-watcher. When back in Hong Kong, my first car was a Golf convertible, which was later exchanged for a Porsche 924.

My favourite car, currently or ever Parenthood created a whole new scenario - I became an MPV driver by necessity and persuasion. Our Renault Scenic bus, the second car in my household, became the work- horse until Porsche created the Cayenne, bringing about a whole new era of family driving performance pleasure.

The worst car or bike I ever had As a vintage car-lover, I've driven a number of 1950s and 60s convertibles, including a Mercedes-Benz 1964 220SE convertible that was fun while it lasted, before it disintegrated gracefully in the Hong Kong climate.

My first crash or ticket That occurred even before I got my driving licence - following in a convoy and drifting into a water-filled ditch by losing focus. A lesson well-taken since.

Best line to or from a traffic policeman/warden In the early 80s, I had the misfortune to bump into the then chief justice at a junction on the Peak. He got out of his car, visibly annoyed, but letting his steam off gently by putting me into my place, saying: 'Are you asleep, man?' He later invited me for tea. Thanking him for his hospitality, I could tell him that his residence used to be my grandparents' home before it became the chief justice's after the first world war, so we both had a good laugh in the end.
