Teenage wunderkind Jonathan Cocker threw down the gauntlet as he made his title intentions known in the Porsche Infineon Carrera Cup Asia series, grabbing pole position for today's race and then saying he had unfinished business to take care of.
The 19-year-old reigning British GT champion starts favourite in the 12-lap race after setting a sizzling qualifying time at the magnificent Shanghai International Circuit as he gave himself a massive boost of scoring back-to-back victories in this city.
Cocker won last year's race by default after race winner, Hong Kong-based Briton Matthew Marsh - the series defending champion - was heavily penalised for a dangerous manoeurve right at the start of the race.
Britain's youngest-ever GT champion now wants to win the race on merit.
'It's not a nice way to win a race [last year]. To me, it still feels that I didn't win it at all,' said Cocker, who entered last year's Shanghai race as a guest driver.
'So I just want to come back and kind of finish that up. For me, for the rest of the year now, the aim is getting pole, winning the race and getting the fastest lap.
'All I can do is try to get maximum points. I am half way there this weekend so I just need to get a good race.
