Updated at 5.00pm: Chief Executive Donald Tsang Yam-kuen has written to President Hu Jintao and Premier Wen Jiabao offering congratulations on the launch and return of China?s second manned spacecraft Shenzhou VI. A government spokesman said on Monday that Mr Tsang had extended congratulations to the central government on behalf of all Hong Kong people. ?The success of Shenzhou VI demonstrates the strength of our motherland and highlights our nation?s courage and faith,? Mr Tsang was quoted as saying. ?From the successful mission of Shenzhou VI, we see the brilliant future of our country,? added the chief executive. The spokesman said Mr Tsang had in the letter proposed inviting astronauts Fei Junlong and Nie Haisheng to visit Hong Kong ? just as China?s first man in space, Yang Liwei, did in 2003 after his mission. Shenzhou VI landed in the Northern province of Inner Mongolia before dawn on Monday, taking the two astronauts safely back to Earth after a five-day journey. Officials described the space mission as ?a complete success? that would boost Beijing?s global standing and support for the Communist Party.
