Angela Leong On-kei, the fourth wife of casino mogul Stanley Ho Hung-sun, was officially sworn in as a Macau legislator yesterday.

Although Ms Leong is new to Macau politics, her social skills appear to be paying off. About 30 minutes before the first Legco session yesterday afternoon, she was already advising her colleagues on choosing the best seat.

'There is nothing to prepare today,' Ms Leong said casually, adding that she felt no nervousness about becoming a directly-elected politician. 'They say this will be a very short session.'

Ms Leong is one of 10 new faces in the Macau legislature, which has 29 members. Twelve were directly elected, 10 were indirectly elected, while the rest were appointed by Chief Executive Edmund Ho Hau-wah.

Susana Chou Kei-chen, re-elected for the third time yesterday as Legco president, said she was already planning how to encourage incumbent and new lawmakers to work better together.
