What: The animal welfare organisation was established in 1997 by a group of animal lovers and became a non-profit charity a year later.

Its services include: finding homes for abandoned pets; housing aged, sick or disabled animals; promoting animal welfare and rights; and providing outreach services for people who are having problems taking care of their pets.

The shelter, which is home to more than 270 animals - including 180 dogs, 60 cats, a dozen rabbits, two pigs, five goats and two chickens - is open to visitors daily from 11.30am to 4.30pm, except Mondays.

Volunteers are needed to help clean cages and kennels, and co-ordinate promotional or fund-raising events while spending quality time with their favourite animals.
