National Geographic: Female Suicide Bombers

ATV World

It is another ordinary afternoon in a Middle East market. However, the calm is suddenly shattered by a deafening explosion.

The silence that follows slowly becomes a growing chorus of sirens wailing and people screaming.

A suicide bomber has struck again. As emergency workers pick through the wreckage, they make a shocking discovery. The mass murderer is a woman. More remarkable, she was the mother of two small children.

Investigators later say the bomber was forced to kill herself after she was discovered having an extra-marital affair. Her suicide would apparently lessen the shame on her family. Her sister passionately denies the charge, saying the bomber was a depressed mother who thought the only way she could help her children find a better life was by sacrificing her own to a cause.

The Diva Mummy

TVB Pearl

The Diva Mummy invites viewers to ponder one of forensic archaeology's greatest mysteries: how several bodies buried in central China more than 2,000 years ago are the best-preserved ancient human remains ever found.

In 1971, at the height of the cold war, workers digging an air-raid shelter near the city of Changsha uncovered an enormous Han Dynasty-era tomb.

Inside they found more than 1,000 well-preserved artefacts, and what some claim to be the most perfectly preserved corpse.

The tomb belonged to Xin Zhui, the wife of the ruler of the Han imperial province of Dai.

Xin, the Lady of Dai, died between 178 and 145 BC, at around 50 years of age.

The objects inside her tomb indicated a woman of wealth and importance,

and one who enjoyed the good things in life.
