As the weather cools, Ben Lu's thoughts don't just turn towards any ordinary ski vacation; he goes heli-skiing. Only a handful of Hongkongers have even tried it, but Lu swears by its adrenaline rush - to be picked up by helicopters and dropped off on snow-capped peaks, and blaze your own virgin trail amid the majestic Canadian Rockies. 'If you ski, it's the best experience you can have,' Lu says. 'It's like a cushiony magic carpet ride. You almost feel weightless. Where we go in Jasper or Banff, it takes five weeks to get there if you hike.' To introduce more people to these week-long adventures, Lu has organised a dinner presentation tonight at the Hong Kong Golf Club in Deep Water Bay, with a talk and a video presentation. However, he warns it's not for beginners. 'You need to be an intermediate type with a go-for-it attitude. Also, when I ski, I've seen bears, foxes, lynx, caribou, all sorts of wildlife. One time, someone fell into a hole and when we went over to help, there was a really pungent smell. It turned out to be the cave of a hibernating bear.' If you have the guts to try it, contact Lu at 9485 8361.
