More student athletes than ever will be taking part in this season's inter-school sports activities.
The action kicked off this month with swimming competitions in Hong Kong and Kowloon, and in the six districts of the New Territories.
Over the next few months, schools will battle it out in 17 sports, aiming for top positions in the regional league tables that will put them in line for end-of-theyear honours.
The Hong Kong and Kowloon inter-school sports competitions have the longest history and are the largest in the SAR. Their appeal is growing by the year. In those two areas alone, a record 266 schools will enter more than 5,200 teams, with about 40,000 athletes taking part in some 8,000 events.
'More schools than ever are taking part, and more teams have entered for the competitions,' said Kelvin Chung Shu-pui, executive secretary of the Hong Kong Schools Sports Federation (HKSSF).
Thanks to support from the Bank of China, Hong Kong, the HKSSF has been able to organise more events.
