Studies in the United States show that when learning new tasks, teens who get a good night's sleep afterwards perform better when tested the next day than those who didn't get enough sleep.
And what's more, researchers have found that after a person learns new information, there is activity in the same area of the brain during sleep. When the person is tested the next day, there is an improvement in memory performance.
So getting a good night's sleep after learning something new is crucial to organising new information and strengthening memory.
