Take action before the dry winter months wreak havoc on your skin

Dry, flaky skin need not ruin your appearance this winter. By enforcing a few protective measures, the skin can be shielded from the drying effects of lower humidity and indoor heating.

Tracy Lord, director of the InterContinental Hong Kong hotel's I-Spa, advises men to apply a heavier moisturiser during the winter months to form a barrier against the cold and the drying effects of radiators and other heaters.

She also recommends exfoliating at least twice a week - particularly if you suffer from dry or excessively oily skin.

Exfoliating helps unblock pores, thereby reducing the possibility of unsightly blackheads and greasy skin. The fine grains help remove the upper layer of the skin, which in turn promotes the renewal of skin cells.

Rinse your face with warm water, then use your fingertips to gently massage in the product using small circular motions.

If your skin feels parched and dry afterwards, try changing to a creamier product. And don't forget to moisturise.
