Bayern Munich were deserving winners in their Champions League home clash with Juventus, and they look good for at least a point in next week's return match in Turin. Juventus have a 100 per cent record in Serie A this season, but they lost at home to Inter Milan in the Italian Super Cup and did not have much to spare in Serie A against Chievo (1-0) and Ascoli (2-1), so they are not unstoppable. Bayern have become more solid under Felix Magath's leadership and, with a point likely to be good enough for them to top group A, they will put the onus on Juventus's attack to break them down. A slight doubt hangs over Bayern, who have dropped points this season away to two of the better sides in Germany (Hamburg and Schalke), but they are the handicap pick. There is another German-Italian clash in group C when Werder Bremen host Udinese. Both teams are at their best away, which makes Udinese the handicap pick this time after a 1-1 in the first encounter between the sides. Most of Udinese's poor results came during the stand-off with star striker Vincenzo Iaquinta, but they recovered their poise once that was resolved. Lille are worth considering on the handicap against Manchester United, following their 0-0 at Old Trafford. The French side may be disadvantaged by not being able to use their own Metropole stadium, but they do not look outclassed in group D.The other handicap bet is more speculative - Real Betis at home to Chelsea. The Spanish side were thrashed 4-0 at Stamford Bridge but they were well in the game before keeper Antonio Doblas gifted Chelsea their second and are clearly capable of better. They have the potential to surprise. Artmedia v Rangers will not catch much attention, but the Slovakian side look a decent win bet.Thun could upset Ajax at home, while the solid home choices are Schalke, Liverpool, Inter Milan, Bruges, Arsenal and Barcelona. Best bets: Schalke, Liverpool, Artmedia, Inter Milan, Bruges, Arsenal, Thun and Barcelona at home. Betis, Bayern, Udinese and Lille on handicap.
