A multi-level penthouse with stunning views has been transformed into an American dream home with classic western and Chinese concepts.
Where property is concerned, size does matter. 'We looked for more than two years,' Melody Landes says about the house hunt she undertook with her husband, Brad. 'Nothing was big enough for my American husband, who grew up in a house.'
So when they walked into a 7,000-square-foot multi-level penthouse with 5,000 sqft of outdoor space, Brad knew he was home. 'I'm a local girl and it was almost
too big,' Landes says. 'I suggested we carve out the top levels for our own use and turn the lower three levels into a rental property until we needed the space.'
Brad agreed to the temporary minimising of his dream home, and with the help of architecture and design duo Caroline Ma and Jason Yung of Jason Caroline Design (tel: 2893 4061), the Landes transformed their seven-level Repulse Bay penthouse into a magnificent four-storey apartment and deck with a downstairs rental flat.
'The place had been empty for a while so it was in bad shape,' Landes says. Jason Caroline stripped everything and reconfigured the space to suit the living needs of the couple and their two young children. 'Melody and Brad wanted a classic American look,' says Ma. 'To achieve this, we panelled most walls and added moulding and other details such as embossed wood furniture, thick rugs and textured sheer curtains.'
