At CitySeen, we've always thought women with saggy arms obviously don't read beauty magazines. After all, what better way to tone those muscles than carry around a couple of autumn/winter issues from the newsstand? One of the trade's 'heaviest' contenders, Elle celebrated its 18th year in Hong Kong with an open-air party in Repulse Bay on Thursday. No steroids were needed that evening for its management to get pumped up about its advertising/editorial ratio. As Asian regional chief executive Victor Visot justifies: 'We try to keep a certain balance. We have some studies. We know ... the advertising section is not considered advertising itself. It's part of the image, part of the information for readers. Through the ad pages, they also know what's happening in the fashion world.' Hong Kong editor Christine Ho chimes in: 'Elle is about creating a dream. Elle is a platform for you to visualise your dreams and provide you with practical ideas on how you can make it all happen.' And you thought it was just beauty tips.
