Get to grips with money
The Hongkong and Shanghai Banking Corporation (HSBC) has invited schools to join its financial literacy workshops to widen students' horizons.
The workshops are part of the Education and Manpower Bureau's School-Business Partnership Programme, but were developed by HSBC. The programme aims to teach students about different careers, establish the right working attitude, adapt to changes of the economy and ultimately achieve personal development.
On October 22, a group of students from St Catherine's School of Girls, Kwun Tong participated in a workshop about the basics of money management.
They learnt how to balance income and spending, how to use credit wisely and the importance of diversification in an investment portfolio.
Another group from the same school joined the 'Face-to-face with HSBC executives' seminar in which they met the chief economist of HSBC, George Leung.
Several other companies also offer similar activities under the programme, including Hutchison Whampoa, New World Telecommunications, and Hong Tai Travel Services.
