Updated at 6.15pm: The government on Thursday began seeking the public?s views on plans to site a new cruise terminal at the former Kai Tak airport site, a spokesman said.
Officials have recently come up with proposals to re-develop the old airport site. The site has been transformed into car sales showrooms, a golf range and other recreational facilities following closure of the old airport in 1998.
The proposals suggest building a 45,000 capacity stadium, a cruise terminal and waterfront promenade along the 3.3 kilometre runway.
A government spokesman on Thursday said the invitation for expressions of interest was to gauge market feedback.
?It is not a tender exercise. We are now expediting the process of developing a cruise terminal at Kai Tak,? he explained.
The spokesman said the government wanted to see if the completion of the planned cruise terminal could be brought forward from 2013 to 2011 by choosing other sites.
