Poly U students have good prospects, survey shows
About 70 per cent of associate degree students at Polytechnic University have gone on to join undergraduate programmes, more than twice the number of last year, a survey has shown. Leaders of the university's Hong Kong Community College claim their associate students have good prospects, with a further 20 per cent in full-time jobs paying an average of $8,000 to $9,000 a month. The survey of 1,074 of this year's graduates also found the number who gained government-funded places in the second year of undergraduate programmes had risen from 60 to 270.
Couple suffers burns
An elderly couple suffered slight burns after joss sticks ignited a leaking LPG cylinder in their Shau Kei Wan home yesterday. The couple were taken to Eastern Hospital for treatment. Police said the gas cylinder was not properly connected to the stove.
arsonists sought
Arsonists started fires at the front doors of nine public housing units on six different floors of a Tuen Mun estate. Doors and metal gates were left blackened after residents put out the fires at King Mei House, Shan King Estate. A man was treated for smoke inhalation.
