Updated at 5.49pm: Marine police on Thursday arrested two men after seizing more than $2.8 million worth of smuggled goods following a speedboat chase, a spokesman said on Friday.
The spokesman said officers intercepted a speedboat ? which had managed to evade inspection ? off Ap Chau at about 9.30pm on Thursday.
They found 132 boxes of cargo containing computer parts, walkie-talkie radios and projectors on the speedboat. The smuggled goods were worth about $2.85 million.
The two men on board jumped into the sea when stopped by officers but were arrested after being rescued, the spokesman said.
The pair, aged 31 and 43, also failed to produce valid work and identity documents, he added.
?They were both arrested [on charges of] attempting to export unmanifested cargo and illegal immigration,? the spokesman said.
