It was timely then HKCyberU in July jointly launched a part-time master of security management programme with Edith Cowan University, Australia.

'We find there's a need for people in Hong Kong working in the security management field to get more training,' said Pamela Lam Po-yan, general manager of the on-line subsidiary of the Hong Kong Polytechnic University. Edith Cowan had 15 years of experience in security science and trained such organisations as the Western Australia Police, said Ms Lam. Incorporating a graduate diploma and graduate certificate in security management, the internationally recognised course is designed for middle-to-senior level professionals.

After 30 months to three years of study, graduates will be awarded a MSM degree from Edith Cowan, and will be equipped to work in government, military, airport, retail or corporate security.
