Go take a hike and help out
Sowers Action is calling for walkers to take part in its annual Walk to Guangzhou to raise money for underprivileged children in remote areas of China to receive an education. The 105km walk takes place from January 31 to February 4 next year. The entry fee is $2,200 with a minimum donation of $5,000. More than 2,000 people have taken part over the past 12 years, raising $30 million. Deadline for applications is December 30. For more details, check www.walktogz.org.hk
Food for thought
The Hong Kong Philo Cafe has set up a youth branch for senior secondary students. The first session will be on the topic, 'Is art useful in our daily life', and takes place at Habitus, 3/F, Western Market, Sheung Wan, on November 18. The discussions will be in English and Cantonese. Organiser teacher Jean-Michel Sourd urges teachers to accompany their students. Sessions are free.
