Jockey Club looks within the ranks for 'care' volunteers
The Jockey Club has taken its commitment to community work a step further by launching a staff club to enlist volunteers.
The 'C.A.R.E.@hkjc' Volunteer Club was officially launched yesterday but began recruiting volunteers in October and already has 550 members including 10 retirees.
Jockey Club chairman Ronald Arculli said the new club would help it plan volunteer activities more systematically.
'It will also allow us to partner [with] other charitable organisations to help spread the caring message throughout Hong Kong,' he said. 'I really appreciate staff joining the club. It will certainly help shoulder social responsibility and contribute to traditional family culture.'
The C.A.R.E. club, which stands for 'care and responsible employee', will endeavour to promote teamwork and networking among volunteers, provide a platform for employees to serve the community and those in need, reinforce the Jockey Club's charitable mission and help it to be a socially responsible corporate citizen.
The Jockey Club's executive director of corporate development, Kim Mak Kin-wah, said the new club would also help with staff development.
