ONE of the oldest secondary schools in the New Territories - Hoh Fuk Tong College - is currently in the midst of its 30th anniversary celebrations.
The events began with a fund-raising walkathon, which was held in March and raised about $90,000 for the school, and will end with an art exhibition to be staged early next month.
The celebrations reached a climax with a Thanksgiving service and ribbon-cutting ceremony marking the anniversary and opening a two-day carnival.
Torrential rain threatened the day early on, but fortunately the weather changed dramatically in mid-morning and flooded areas of the grounds were soon cleared.
Students and teachers braved the harsh weather in last-minute preparation for the event, which was the culmination of many months of work.
Among the VIP guests who attended the ceremony were the Reverend Ng Chun-chi (general secretary of the Church of Christ in China), Legislative Councillor Tso Siu-wai, Senior Education Officer Lau Kwong-mo, Past Students' Association president Cheung Kam-hei, management board chairman Dr S. Chung-jen and the Reverend Daniel Wong.
Special guest the Reverend Ng Chun-chi presented a stirring sermon before the ribbon-cutting ceremony.
