Where? In the middle of Berlin in the Charlottenburg area, the KaDeWe store covers more than 646,000 square feet over six floors. The Department Store of the West (KaDeWe: Kaufhaus des Westens) is located on the Tauentzienstrasse and is easily accessible by public transport.
The vibe: each floor has been renovated, transforming the store into a hip and elegant shopping haven. The ground floor, which features accessories, fragrances and beauty products, has been revamped into a luxury boulevard, setting the scene with black marble and tinted glass. Precious woods and art-deco-style walls divide the fashion lounges on the second floor.
Fashion finds: the first floor is dedicated to men, offering everything from shirts, ties, suits, jackets, coats, jeans, sleepwear and shoes to accessories such as leather goods and bags. Brands include Boss, Paul Smith, Zegna, Dior Homme, Tommy Hilfiger, Lacoste, Ralph Lauren and Napapijri. The second floor covers women's wear, presenting elegant and casual wear from labels such as Akris Punto, Armani Collezioni, Boss, Blumarine, Burberry, Killah, Custo, and Salvatore Ferragamo.
Extras: what began as a two-storey building has gradually been expanded to become Europe's biggest department store. It celebrates its 100th anniversary in 2007. Along with an impressive fashion selection, it also has a big delicatessen on the top floor and a winter garden with a restaurant offering a magnificent view over Berlin.
