Get ready for a big weekend out as musical extravanganza Rockit blasts its way to Victoria Park with a mix of live music, family entertainment and food. The jamboree takes place next Saturday and Sunday from 3pm to 11pm.

Now in its third year, the festival will feature an array of international and local acts. Headliners are British rock act Feeder (Sunday at 7pm) and American psychedelic rockers Brian Jonestown Massacre (Saturday at 7pm).

Be sure not to miss out on the local talent. Fifteen-year-old drum prodigy James Campion (left) will perform a 10-minute solo. Inspired by his father, a former drummer, and Deep Purple's Ian Paice, Campion started playing drums four years ago. He's a regular performer at The Edge, as part of the nightclub's YRock programme for young performers, and was one of the top five drummers in this year's Fastest Drummer Contest organised by Tom Lee Music. He won one of the preliminary contests by hitting the drum with his feet more than 820 times in a minute.

Campion is thrilled to be performing in front of a big crowd at Rockit. 'I expect it to be a bit scary because it's such a big event, but it will be really great to perform to a big crowd,' he said.

'Outdoor events tend to be more fun. You can see the faces of the audience and there's definitely a lot of energy coming from them.'

Another local favourite are The Academy (above). The quintet - comprised mostly of Island School graduates - have played at clubs and have performed gigs at schools and the Warehouse. At Rockit, they will unleash their original rock songs.

'We want Hong Kong people to see that there's a band from this town that can share a stage with big international artists and blow them away with a killer performance,' said singer Tom Howells. 'It's really different playing outdoors, especially because the clubs in Hong Kong tend be pretty tiny. It's going to be awesome to have all that space on stage to roam around.'
