The man from Ho Man Tin had travelled to Guangzhou in September.

He was admitted to Queen Elizabeth Hospital on October 5, one day after developing back pain and lower-limb weakness. He was in stable condition last night.

Laboratory tests confirmed yesterday that he was infected with Streptococcus suis.

The Centre for Health Protection said his family members had not developed any symptoms but were under medical surveillance.
