The prestigious residential project needs dressing up

While Norman Foster's controversial canopy for the West Kowloon Cultural District project is still the subject of fierce debate, Hong Kong is likely to see his work in an unlikely sort of building - high-rise residential towers.

According to sources close to the project, Pacific Century Premium Development, developer of Residence Bel-Air in the Cyberport, recently appointed Foster and Partners to redesign the exterior of the high-rise apartment towers in phase five of the residential project, which is still at the planning stage of development.

The project will be based on the existing master layout plan designed by local architectural firm Wong & Ouyang.

'The architect [Lord Foster] will mainly dress up the residential towers and will be involved in some of the interior design work,' said a source close to the developer.

Architects who had seen the computer rendering of the completed buildings said the exterior design of the buildings was 'cutting edge'.
