A 30-strong delegation of barristers led by the Bar Association chairman has been invited to Beijing by mainland authorities.
Bar chairman Philip Dykes said the trip had become an annual tradition over the past few years. The Bar was formally invited by the Hong Kong and Macau Affairs Office.
Mr Dykes will be travelling with vice-chairman Rimsky Yuen Kwok-keung, several members of the Bar Council and other barristers. Mr Dykes would not say whether political reform would be on the agenda for discussion.
'We will talk about matters of mutual interest,' he said. 'We will decide at a meeting on Thursday what to talk about.'
From Beijing, Mr Dykes and a small delegation are also due to go to Kunming . 'The Bar Association has paid several visits to provincial and city associations in the past,' Mr Dykes said. 'We have been to Shanghai, Beijing and Guangzhou of course, but more recently we've been asked to go along to secondary centres as well.'
