Rebels' claims it is a haven for male expats 'untrue'

The Entrepreneurs Club has hit back at a rebel faction that has accused it of being a 'boys' club for gweilos', claiming it has a high percentage of Chinese members, with about 40 per cent of them being women.

Four members of the club's executive - all expatriates - dismissed the allegations as 'patently untrue' at a press meeting yesterday aimed at raising the profile of the club as a place designed to encourage entrepreneurs.

'This is an extremely mixed and eclectic group with English as the language we use,' the chairman of the 150-member group, Chris Wilcock, said.

Former member Philippe Degrange - who is part of a rebel faction that has formed a non-profit-making group - derided the 'boys' club and a place for gweilos' saying it did not give anything back to the community.

But Mr Wilcock said it was important that the club was run as a company rather than a society to ensure it was more accountable to sponsors and the chambers of commerce it worked with.
