I REFER to your reader's letter headlined, ''Beautiful village under threat'' (South China Morning Post, November 6) concerning illegal cooked food stalls and restaurants and the parking problem at Shek O.
The Urban Services Department is aware of the situation and has been taking action to tackle the problem of illegal cooked food hawkers and unlicensed restaurants in the area.
In the latest enforcement operations on November 3, 9 and 11 this year at different times, a total of eight summonses were issued to the persons found running illegal restaurant businesses, causing obstruction in a public place and illegal extension of food businesses onto the pavement.
Three cooked food hawkers were arrested and two seizures of hawking paraphernalia/commodities were carried out. The police also dealt with the traffic/parking problems.
This department will continue to keep the area under close observation, and if circumstances warrant, further action will be taken with the assistance of the police.
