The music departments of two tertiary institutions have joined forces to expand their students' learning options.
The music department at the University of Hong Kong and the School of Music at the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts now allow students to take programmes at both institutions. There is also an exchange programme for academic staff and they share library resources.
HKU vice-chancellor Professor Tsui Lap-chee said although the two institutions had worked on collaborative projects before, formalising the relationship was good for a long-term outlook.
'It allows us to strategically plan curricula that will benefit students the most,' Professor Tsui said this week after signing the agreement with APA director Professor Kevin Thompson.
Student exchanges will take place from the next academic year.
At the moment, there are 60 undergraduate and 15 postgraduate students majoring in music at HKU and 200 full-time students in music programmes at APA.
