Genuine stayer Seasons Knack, the only horse to have beaten Super Combed around the Happy Valley 2,200 metres course, is set to return to his best after 18 months in the wilderness in the final leg of tomorrow night's triple trio at the city track. The six-year-old has only had three runs for trainer Francis Lui Kin-wai after being transferred from the David Hill stable and on each occasion has suggested his winning turn would come when stepping up in distance. The last time the Umatilla gelding tasted success was in May last year when claiming the prized scalp of Super Combed, compliments of a clever Douglas Whyte ride. It was the only time Super Combed suffered defeat at this course and distance, winning at each of his other six appearances. Seasons Knack resumed with an excellent fourth at Sha Tin, after settling at the tail of the field, behind the in-form Lotzatow over an unsuitable 1,400m and had excuses when ninth at his next outing over 1,600m, due to a slow speed that didn't suit off-pace runners. A dawdling tempo played against the strapping gelding again last time and after settling well back, and racing keenly in the early stages, he managed to work home well for sixth to Sprinter, being the only horse to make ground from the second half of the field. With the rise in distance and the benefit of three runs from a spell, he looks ideally placed to find his best form, making him an appealing banker for TT players. Hardest to topple will be the John Size-trained Kowloon Fit, to be ridden by Whyte, on the strength of his last-start Valley success over 1,800m. Whyte and Size are in dominant mode, teaming up for 14 wins from only 57 runners, and Kowloon Fit gives every indication he will cope with the rise in distance and class, especially after coming up with barrier three. Other worthy inclusions are Winning Sunshine, who ran a nose second to Super Combed in his only start over this course and distance, the in-form Mastery and the well-drawn Cypress Hill. The opening leg looks difficult but best to stick with the strength of Whyte and Size with the capable Right Choice. The Sandtrap gelding is backing up from Sha Tin on Sunday where he ran a creditable sixth in an unsuitable 1,400m race behind Good Partner. His previous performance over this course and distance behind Desert Strike indicated he was close to regaining his best. The main danger looks to be Fantastic Win, from the inside barrier, but others with chances include Thunder Man, Freebird, Fairplay and Superb. The middle leg may be the best option for going light, with the in-form Qi's Pet and the promising Excellent Boy appearing to have a mortgage on the event and appealing as a potential double banker combination. Qi's Pet has won two races already this season and should get the run of the race, while Excellent Boy looked unlucky not to win last start after being slow from the barriers and checked in the early stages. Desert Strike is worth respect on the strength of his smart first-up win and Sound Of Silence, with a light weight and a good barrier, also warrants consideration. Course-and-distance specialists Island Spirit and Cherished have been down on form this season but the former will appreciate a drop in class, while Cherished is drawn to be saving ground.
